TREND is a student-run fashion, art, music, and lifestyle magazine at UC San Diego. I work as part of a team of 3 graphic designers to fulfill requests for digital and print materials, as well as develop magazine layouts for biannual issues. This year, we significantly developed its visual identity in collaboration with the marketing team to come up with a fun, distinct brand voice that resonates with our target audience of young creatives.
We blended modern and retro aesthetics to create a sense of timelessness and diversity of creative expressions that TREND encompasses.
Colors are inspired by the natural UCSD landscape and architecture, combined with bolder splashes of pink and red. Visual elements consist of a mix of abstract geometric shapes and fun organic ones that represent various creative talents across sections in our team and in the broader UCSD community.
Based on our branding, I created designs for stickers, t-shirts, and tote bags which are sold at our events.
For promoting fashion events, fostering engagement, and introducing our staff.
Our Fall/Winter 2023 issue is titled Vault, which reminisces treasures of the past in light of the present and reflects on changes that have happened in between.
Below are some spreads I created for the issue. I experimented with font pairings to represent the convergence of past and present, as well as hand-drawn elements (using Procreate) to create texture and provoke emotions.
